An Axial Pump is one where the pump case is split parallel to pump shaft. An axial centrifugal pump is one in which the pressure is developed by the propelling or lifting action of the vanes of the propeller on the liquid rather than the centrifugal forces on the vanes of the impeller.
Axial flow pumps are sometimes called propeller pumps because they operate essentially the same as the propeller of a boat.
