The permits are located in the Browse Basin, offshore Western Australia. In 2006, ConocoPhillips farmed into permits WA-314-P and WA-315-P. ConocoPhillips is the operator and has the option to increase its interest in the permits to 60 percent. ConocoPhillips and Karoon jointly acquired permit WA-398-P in 2007. An Endurance 3-D seismic survey was completed in 2008, with a drilling program commenced in early 2009. The first 2009 well, Poseidon-1, encountered hydrocarbons with an estimated net pay of approximately 500 feet in aggregate. An appraisal well of the Poseidon discovery is planned. While ConocoPhillips is encouraged with the results of the initial discovery well, Poseidon is a large, complex feature that will require a series of appraisal wells to determine both size and commerciality.
