From Piping-Designer
Everything is made up of one or more elements (chemical element). An element is a material (or substance) made entirely from one type of atom and can not be changed or broken into another substance by chemical means. Different elements have atoms of different sizes and properties. A material is made from more than one type of atom.
The atom is the smallest part of an element. At the center of an atom there are electrons having a nucleus (center) of protons and neutrons. The Atomic Number of an element, is the number of protons in the atom.
Chemical Element Series
The physical properties of metals have characteristic such as shiny, hard, high density, malleable, high Melting Point and can conduct electricity and heat well.
Metalloids are elements that fall between metals and non-metals having some of the properties of metals but not all.
The physical properties of nonmetals have characteristic such as dull rather than shiny, low density, brittle, lower Melting Point and conducts electricity and heat poorly.
