An input relative to the device that reads either a TRUE or a FALSE, 1 or 0, or ON of OFF as an input signal.
P&ID Abbreviation
On a P&ID, a Discrete Input shown in a PLC instrument bubble would mean that the instrument to which it is attached inputs to the PLC (or equivalent) that is either a TRUE or FALSE.
