An output relative to the device that reads either a TRUE or a FALSE, 1 or 0, or ON of OFF as an output signal.
May be used to activate an alarm, beacon, valve or interlock device.
P&ID Abbreviation
On a P&ID, a Discrete Output shown in a PLC instrument bubble would mean that the instrument to which it is attached receives an output from the PLC (or equivalent) that is either a TRUE or FALSE.
