About
The Japan Atomic Power Company (JAPC) was established in 1957. Since then, JAPC has been promoting the safe use of nuclear energy as the only power company in Japan solely engaged in nuclear energy. For over fifty years, JAPC has contributed to the development of nuclear power generation and has endeavored to provide a stable power supply through the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, including the Tokai Power Station, the first commercial nuclear power plant in Japan.
In recent years, there has been widespread interest in energy security and the prevention of global warming. The Japanese government's Action Plan for the Development of a Low-carbon Society, which was adopted at a Cabinet meeting in July 2008, identifies nuclear power as the core low carbon energy that will continue to play a crucial role in preventing global warming. Increasingly, expectations for nuclear power generation are on the rise. [1]
