(Redirected from Petroleum)
The word petroleum (crude oil) comes from Latin and means "rock oil", thought to have come from decomposing animals and plants under heat and pressure over millions of years during geologic periods. It is a mixture of hydrocarbons found at various locations and depths around the world, usually at deeper elevations, but can be near the surface. it is used throughout our everyday life because of the complex chemical structure and because it can be blended into many different compounds (even thousands).
