Screw Types

Machine Screw

This is a straight shaft fastener with external threads. It requires a pre-tapped hole in order to mate with the screw. It is also called a stove bolt.

Sex Bolt and Mating Screw

These bolts/screws are mating fasteners. The bolt has a barrel shaft with female internal threads. The screw has male external threads. This allows the bolt to go through an object or objects to secure them together. They are also known as a barrel nuts and Chicago bolts.

Sheet Metal Screw

This screw can be used with fiberglass, metal, and wood making it quite versatile. Also called a self-tapping screw it comes with a sharp point.

Socket Screw

These screws also known as socket set screws, use an Allen wrench for tightening. The point comes in cup, half dog, cone, flat, and oval.

Wood Screw

This is a tapered shank screw for use only in wood. With this tapered, smooth shank, and sharp pointed, it can pull two pieces of wood together to make a tight joint. For the tightest screw fit you can use a special tap bit that has a tapered shaft for the pilot hole. This will maximize the screw thread pull.
