A stop check valve is a combination of a lift check valve and a globe valve. It has a stem which, when closed, prevents the disk from coming off the seat and provides a tight seal shutoff which is similar to a globe valve. When the stem is opened, the stem allows the lift check to operate freely. The stem is not directly connected to the disk. Rather, it acts as a guide for the disk to lift up on when the stem is open or pushes the disk into the seat to fully shut the valve when it is closed.
