Net Positive or Negative Force

on . Posted in Classical Mechanics

Two forces can add or subtract to the net force when the forces act on each other.  Forces in the same direction working togeather equal a net force.

Net Positive Force formula

\( F_n = F_1  +  F_2 \)     (Net Positive Force)

\( F_1 = F_n  -  F_2 \)

\( F_2 = F_n  -  F_1 \)

Symbol English Metric
\( F_n \) = net force \( lbf \) \(N\)
\( F_1 \) = force 1 \( lbf \) \(N\)
\( F_2 \) = force 2 \( lbf \) \(N\)

Net Negative Force formula

\( F_n = F_1 -  F_2 \)     (Net Negative Force)

\( F_1 = F_n +  F_2 \)

\( F_2 = F_1 -  F_n \)

Symbol English Metric
\( F_n \) = net force \( lbf \) \(N\)
\( F_1 \) = force 1 \( lbf \) \(N\)
\( F_2 \) = force 2 \( lbf \) \(N\)
