Thermal Insulator

on . Posted in Thermodynamics

A thermal insulator is one that does not conduct heat readily and is used for either heat conservation or personnel protection.

Good thermal insulators:

  • Asbestos Cloth
  • Balsa Wood
  • Calcium Silicate
  • Cork
  • Cotton Wool
  • Diatomaceous Earth
  • Expanded Polystyrene
  • Fiberglass
  • Glass Wool
  • Laminated Plywood
  • Mineral Wool
  • Polyurethane Foam
  • Rock Wool
  • Rubber
  • Sawdust

Electrical insulators:

  • Ceramics
  • Glass
  • Hard rubber
  • Natural and synthetic rubber
  • Plastics (Thermoset and Thermoplastics)
  • Quartz
  • Silicone rubber
  • Shellac
  • Transformer Oil
