Circular Thickness

on . Posted in Gear

Circular thickness, abbreviated as CT, is the thickness of a tooth measure along the circumference of the pitch circle.

Circular Thickness formula

$$\large{ CT = \frac{\pi\;PD}{2\;n} }$$
Symbol English Metric
$$\large{ CT }$$ = circular thickness $$\large{in}$$ $$\large{mm}$$
$$\large{ n }$$ = number of teeth on the diameter $$\large{dimensionless}$$
$$\large{ PD }$$ = pitch diameter $$\large{in}$$ $$\large{mm}$$
$$\large{ \pi }$$ = Pi $$\large{3.141 592 653 ...}$$

Circular Thickness formula

$$\large{ CT = \frac{1.57}{DP} }$$
Symbol English Metric
$$\large{ CT }$$ = circular thickness $$\large{in}$$ $$\large{mm}$$
$$\large{ DP }$$ = dimetrical pitch $$\large{in}$$ $$\large{mm}$$
