Mole
Mole, abbreviated as \(mol\), is the SI base unit used to express the amount of substance, meaning the quantity of elementary entities such as atoms, molecules, ions, or other specified particles. One mole is defined as containing exactly \(6.02214076 \;x\; 10^{23}\) elementary entities, a constant known as the Avogadro constant. This definition makes the mole a counting unit, similar in concept to a “dozen,” but on an extremely large scale suitable for chemical substances. Using the mole allows chemists and scientists to relate the number of particles in a substance to measurable properties like mass, enabling accurate calculations in chemical reactions and material quantities.
